The Unitarian Universalist Community of Independence (“UUCI”) was formed in January 2012 by a group of Grayson County residents who feel a resonance with all religious traditions, since all faiths hold valid truths. We are a lay-led church and we invite guest speakers of all belief systems.

About Our Services

Because of the great diversity of our services, you will need to attend more than once to get a feel for who we are and what we do. A typical service will present readings from a variety of sources, "religious" and otherwise; perhaps Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, humanism, wisdom literature, poetry, New Age writers, historical Unitarians, psychology, or many other sources. There will be hymns representing these same traditions, and musical selections ranging from classical to folk and popular. Special musicians, both instrumental and vocal, greatly enrich our services from time to time. Because we have no minister, the service may be presented by a guest speaker, may be an all-musical program, possibly a dramatic presentation, a meditation experience, or a panel discussion. Messages are quite varied and range from the theological to the personal to folk narrative to topics specific to our church and denomination. In all our services there is much good will and good humor as well as serious reflection.
